The short answer#
If you want recipes and meal plans, use Yazio. Its own description leads with being an AI calorie tracker, an intermittent fasting app and a meal planner, with a large food database behind it. SmartCrunch supplies none of those: it stores your food, it does not suggest food.
If you already know what you eat and want the arithmetic to be right, keep reading.
What each one is#
Yazio is an all-in-one nutrition product: calorie tracking, an AI estimator, barcode scanning, meal plans, recipes, and an intermittent fasting timer. It has a free tier and a Pro subscription, and it is available on more than one platform.
SmartCrunch is an iPhone calorie tracker with one screen and no account. It works out your maintenance from your own logged weeks rather than a formula, and publishes every threshold it uses.
Where Yazio is better#
- Recipes and meal plans. Thousands of them, with shopping lists. We supply none of that and are not building it. Ours is the other half of the word: you can save a dish you assembled yourself and log it in one tap, but nothing in SmartCrunch will ever propose a meal to you.
- Intermittent fasting. There is no fasting window in SmartCrunch at all.
- Android and web. We are iPhone only.
- Database breadth, particularly outside packaged goods.
Where SmartCrunch differs#
- The number’s origin. Yazio, like nearly everything in the category, sets your target from a formula. Ours is solved backwards from your own data when there is enough of it, and says so when there is not.
- What free means. Our free tier is the entire engine: budget, diary, scanner, goal, trend, forecast, Apple Health both ways and your complete history, with no daily caps and no locked window. The paid tier is a single feature that changes no computed number.
- No account, no server holding the diary.
- No advertising and no analytics of any kind.
Price#
Measured on the US App Store on . Yazio’s in-app list shows several concurrent plans; treat this as a range rather than a quote.
| Yazio | SmartCrunch | |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | yes | yes, no caps |
| 3 months | ~$23.99 | — |
| 12 months | ~$23.90–$47.90 | $49.99 |
| What Pro buys | recipes, meal plans, fasting features, analyses | one feature: photo and sentence estimation |
Which to choose#
Choose Yazio if the hard part for you is deciding what to eat. A tracker that also plans is a genuinely different and often more useful product.
Choose SmartCrunch if the hard part is trusting the number, you cook what you already cook, and you would rather not pay for the parts that count.
Claims about Yazio were checked against its public pages on and are not warranted to stay current — prices and features change without notice, and the vendor's own site is authoritative.
