Most cookie notices are long because the site behind them has a lot to declare. This one is short for the opposite reason.
smartcrunch.org sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, runs no analytics, loads nothing from a third party, and ships no client-side JavaScript at all. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to, and asking you to click “accept” on nothing would be theatre.
This notice covers the website. The SmartCrunch app is a different matter — it does have optional analytics, which you answer for separately. §8 explains why the two must not be confused, and the Privacy Policy covers the app in full.
1. Cookies and similar technologies#
“Cookies and similar technologies” covers rather more than cookies: local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, cache-based identifiers, pixels, web beacons and browser fingerprinting all read from or write to your device, and the law treats them alike.
This site uses none of them. Not one cookie is set, no storage API is written to, there is no pixel, no beacon and no fingerprinting script. Every page is static HTML and CSS produced ahead of time; your browser downloads it and renders it, and that is the whole interaction.
2. Strictly necessary storage#
Even the “strictly necessary” category — the one that needs no consent — is empty here. There is no session to keep, no login, no shopping basket, no language preference to remember, no consent choice to record, and no CSRF token because there is no form to submit.
The site does not have a preference to store, so it stores none.
3. Analytics#
There are no website analytics. No PostHog, no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no Matomo, no self-hosted counter, no pixel from anyone.
Nobody is measuring how many people read this page, how far you scrolled, or where you came from. The only record of your visit is whatever the hosting provider writes in its own server logs to serve the request and keep the service running — which it does as its own controller, and which contains no identifier this site put there.
4. Before consent: zero requests#
On a site with a consent banner, the meaningful question is what fires before you answer. Here the answer is trivially “nothing”, because there is nothing to fire before or after.
Loading a page from smartcrunch.org makes requests for that page’s HTML, its stylesheet and its images — all from the same origin. There is no request to a third-party domain: no font CDN, no script host, no tag manager, no embedded video, no social widget, no external image. You can verify this in about ten seconds: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab, reload the page, and read the host column. Everything on it is this site.
5. Changing your mind#
There is nothing to change. No choice was recorded, so no choice can be withdrawn, and clearing your browser data does nothing to your relationship with this site because there was nothing of ours in it.
If you want to change an answer you gave inside the app — the AI question or the analytics question — that lives in Settings → Privacy in SmartCrunch itself, not here.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control#
The site honours Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals in the only way that is actually meaningful: it does nothing that either signal would ask it to stop.
Both are instructions not to track, not to sell and not to share. There is no tracking here to switch off and nothing to sell or share, so a visit with the signal set and a visit without it are byte-for-byte identical. If analytics are ever added, honouring GPC is part of adding them, not an afterthought.
7. No advertising and no social trackers#
- No advertising network, no ad exchange, no retargeting pixel.
- No Meta pixel, no TikTok pixel, no LinkedIn Insight tag, no X pixel.
- No “share” or “like” buttons — those are trackers that happen to look like buttons, which is why this site uses plain links instead.
- No affiliate cookies, no attribution parameters, no data broker, no ad identifier.
- No A/B testing tool, no heatmap recorder, no session replay.
8. The website’s analytics and the app’s are separate things#
This one matters, because “you said you have no analytics” and “the app has optional analytics” can look like a contradiction. They are two different systems with two different answers:
| This website | The SmartCrunch app | |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics | None. Nothing is collected, ever | Optional, off until you explicitly say yes |
| Provider | — | PostHog, on EU-hosted infrastructure |
| Identifier | None | A random UUID, minted on your device, destroyed when you withdraw |
| How to change it | Nothing to change | Settings → Privacy in the app |
| Consent | Not needed — nothing is stored or sent | Asked as its own question, refusable, reversible |
Answering the analytics question in the app has no effect here, and there is nothing here that could affect the app. Reading this page does not opt you into anything, and refusing analytics in the app does not need you to do anything on this site.
The app’s side of the story is in §7 of the Privacy Policy.
9. Legal basis#
Storing information on, or gaining access to information already stored on, a visitor’s device requires consent under the ePrivacy rules, except where it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for. This site does neither, so no consent is required and none is sought.
Because nothing identifies you, no personal data is processed by the website for its own purposes, and there is no legal basis to declare for a processing that does not happen. The controller for anything that does arise is:
Aleksandr Kolesnikov, Dimitri Nikolaou 7, Limassol, Cyprus, 4006, the Republic of Cyprus — contact [email protected].
10. Contact and complaints#
Questions about this notice, or evidence that something on this page is wrong: [email protected]. If you find a request going somewhere this document does not mention, that is a defect and we want to hear about it.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority — in the Republic of Cyprus, where the controller is established, or in the country where you live or work.
11. Changes to this notice#
If the site ever gains analytics, an embedded third-party resource, or anything else that touches your device, this notice and the mechanism to refuse it arrive together, before the change goes live — not a banner bolted on afterwards. The date at the top of this page moves whenever the text does.
Until then, the claim above stands as written, and the Network tab is there to check it.
